WHAT IS SOUL FOOD

Soulfood is a very unique cuisine, Tantalising dishes cooked with passion & love from the soul bringing a true taste of the Caribbean.

History

Jamaican cuisine includes a mixture of cooking techniques, flavours, spices and influences from the indigenous people on the island of JamaicaAfrican, and the Spanish,  IndianBritish and Chinese who have inhabited the island. It is also influenced by the crops introduced into the island from tropical Southeast Asia. Jamaican cuisine includes various dishes from the different cultures brought to the island with the arrival of people from elsewhere. Other dishes are novel or a fusion of techniques and traditions. In addition to ingredients that are native to Jamaica, many foods have been introduced and are now grown locally. A wide variety of seafoodtropical fruits and meats are available

Others are novel and have developed locally. Popular Jamaican dishes include curry goat, fried dumplingsackee and saltfish (cod). Cultural importance

Jamaican and Caribbean culture is focused around the family. Food and the preparation of food for the family is a vital and pivotal part of Jamacian life and the family and community structure.

Recipies and techniques are passed down from one generation to the next and the "secrets" of a dish are as much a part of family history as they are part of a cultural history.

Cooking is also governed by the ingredients used and the dishes created are made from what was available and accessible. For this reason much of our food is seasonal and the produce of the islands changed as the seasons changed and in turn our diet changed.  As such the venue at thSoul Food Vendor will change to reflect and take advantage of what fresh produce is available on the day.

Ingredients

What makes our recipes a winning combo of taste and nutrition, is that they consist of

fresh & ground seasonings , highly nutritional and beneficial to support a healthy lifestyle  ,without compromising on taste.

Ground seasonings such as Pimento , Cinnamon , Garlic, Scotch Bonnet, Ginger, Nutmeg to name a few are all fantastic for detoxifying , blood circulation , immune system , heart disease , infection , flu and digestion .Not forgetting natural in Aphrodisiac!!

Teaming these up with high and lean protein meats like Goat or simmering down into a Vegan curry makes our dishes versatile to many pallets.

Marinating

Soulfood Famous Jerk Sauce -Hot or Not?

Did you know that everyday we make from scratch without preservatives , batches of Hot & Not Jerk sauce .

Our sauce has won over the locals against commercial competitors claiming the Jerk sauce . Many customers have attested to the fact that , after visiting chain derived and other local restaurant’s that nothing comes close to the Soulfood recipe !!

Why?

Many shelf derived and mass produced Jerk sauces are too hot for many pallets and sadly puts many of the amazing sauce. We at Soulfood solved this issue and wanted to make sure everyone can experience this truly mouth watering Caribbean delight  .

As we make our own sauces and marinade  , this enables us to temper the chilli’s heat levels, making a Hot or Not selection by increasing or simply not adding the powerful Scotch Bonnets .

This enables those who prefer a mild taste to truly enjoy the warm flavoursome seasoning’s that wave through each mouthful.

For those who like it Hot …Well you asked for it!
